Motivation to pursue a graduate degree
I chose Florida State University because the Combined Pathways program allowed me to begin graduate coursework early, helping reduce the overall cost of my master’s degree. I have had an incredibly positive experience with the accounting faculty, whose support and teaching have shaped my academic growth. Most importantly, I genuinely love my time at FSU and the community it has given me.
Importance and/or impact of research and work
I am currently working toward my CPA certification and am actively studying for both the FAR and TCP sections. Balancing these exams simultaneously has strengthened my time management and technical accounting skills. My master’s coursework directly reinforces the material covered on the CPA exams, allowing me to apply advanced concepts in real time. This integration has been instrumental in deepening my understanding of complex accounting and tax topics.
Career aspirations
My career goal is to begin as a tax associate accountant with Apercen in Spring 2027, following a return internship with the firm this summer. I plan to continue developing specialized tax expertise while earning my CPA. Long term, I hope to expand my skills into higher-level tax planning and advisory work.
Advice for anyone considering graduate school
Graduate school decisions should be based on what best aligns with your long-term career goals. While cost is an important consideration, it should not be the only factor, as many programs offer funding opportunities such as assistantships and scholarships. Researching options early can make graduate education more accessible than expected.
Accomplishments during graduate career
One of my proudest graduate accomplishments is serving as a graduate assistant for Introductory Managerial Accounting. This role has helped make my master’s degree financially attainable while reducing financial stress. I also value the opportunity to teach and mentor younger students, which allows me to stay actively involved in the FSU community beyond coursework and CPA preparation.
