Motivation to pursue a graduate degree

I was inspired to pursue a PhD because I wanted to commit to growth. Florida State was a childhood dream, and to be able to study here, at the highest level, is the fairytale ending to my story.

Importance and/or impact of research and work

I am currently doing research for a memoir that braids psycho-oncology, trauma, and physical resilience. This work is important to me because I want to educate, and inspire readers to consider these themes in a new light.

Career aspirations

My goal is to continue to grow as an educator in higher education and to publish creative works simultaneously.

Advice for anyone considering graduate school

Believe in your ability to grow and learn. As daunting as graduate school might seem, with the right mindset, this experience quickly becomes a springboard toward so much more.

Accomplishments during graduate career

I was recently promoted to Managing Editor of the Southeast Review, and I am proud to be a part of such a respected magazine. But my most proud moment as a graduate student was watching one of my own undergraduate students present his work at the digital symposium last spring. I am passionate about giving back to the world in whatever capacity I can, and teaching has been a way to directly impact those around me.
